Reach vs. HiDef

I'm new to XNA but wanted to know why the GraphicsDeviceManager.Profile is always Reach and never HiDef? My hardware supports HiDef but this property is always Reach even when I change the build for Xnaml.dll to traget HiDef. When I use straight XNA libraries the GraphicsDeviceManager.Profile comes out as HiDef. How can I make the Xnaml code check for HiDef vs Reach device? (need to use XNA inside WPF application).

So I was able to make it work using HiDef and run correctly by changing the line where we create a new GraphicsDevice in the GraphicsDeviceManager class by just hard coding GraphicsProfile.HiDef instead of using the profile member but would like to correct the problem to make it detect this on its own. Any suggestions?
